The focus of this series of lessons is the topic of honey, designed for a Year 3 Science class. The relevant sections of the Australian Curriculum are included for context, including the Year 3 Level Description, Achievement Standard, and General Capabilities. There are books in the Living Archive of Aboriginal Languages collection that refer to collecting honey, but these are not just about satisfying our sweet tooth. Honey has a significance in Aboriginal cultures that goes beyond its value as a nutritious bush food. Books such as the Ganbulapula story from Yirrkala draw attention to this, as does the Ganbulapula dance video which has been posted on YouTube.
